A woman called Julia Penelope once said; ''language forces us to perceive the world as somebody has presented it to us. '' If I blamed her for being wrong then I would have been a lair. Since our language determines how we think and also limit the way we see our world.
If I had to answer, to an’ everyday matter' question such as ''Why Language is that substantial for us humans?'' I would probably say that language is considered to be an exclusively human mode of communication; without the means to communicate, human beings would be in a lost and incomprehensible world. Therefore, it is extremely beneficial to communicate with others because it helps us to reach out to people and to unite with others that are not of our same sort. It has always been important due to the fact of revitalization since it has transmitted culture and identity from one generation to another. But has also been a profound symbol of both national and personal identity.
Furthermore language is considered to be a complicated dance between internal and external interpretations of our identity. Apart from physical appearance and bodily functions affected by the genes, knoweledge and hairatages. Has our personal enviroment been another major factor when it determines linguistic affilation, values a system in the same way we value our language and gives us a sence of belonging. Then in the most cases, the place where we grew up or still live has a special significance. On the contrary this may also be very complicated when interaction between genetic and enviromental effects may cause friction and conflict.
However we sometimes desire to belong to a more dominant group in terms of economic status, political power or even culture. Then is language a crucial and dynamic factor that plays a major role in creating a sense of ability and strenght. when we usually express our options and feelings through our mother tongue and other types of languages such as English, French and even body language. Not only the language it self, but also the way we speak, our accent and dialect. Which usually gives us a personal identity which makes us all individuals and each and everyone of us special in our own way.
Another important component is the level of usage, refering to a formal and an informal language. They usually say that when ideas fail, words come in very handy, informal language is spoken by most people every day an example is netspeak, the distinetive language. Where the rules of punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure are ignored. While on the other hand high thoughts demand high language and then is a formal form more appropriate.
There are many differences between a mother tongue and other languages. Especially when it has been with a person through all the years of its life. But in today’s society english has come to be the second most important language, after the mother tongue. This is a substantial reason why many English learns speak the English laguage that fluent as if they were native speakers themselves. Moreover the advantage of speaking a second language opens a new window into people’s lives. The individual can play different roles just by knowing another language and speaking in a certain way in one language and a completely different way in another one. In addition to this, language helps the individual to break down obstacles.
To sum up I would like to point that the world would be a very tedious place without its phraseology and verbalization!
And within such moments…I get on a bus, I find a place to sit and just by sitting there I get the answers to my thoughts. For instance a day like that was today, when I was returning home after my examination and I saw a young boy sitting at a wheelchair, being handicapped. His age was probably around 19 but he was probably thinking as a four-year old boy. A young woman, who was escorting him, was holding a purple glove puppet and each time he looked at it he smiled.
That moment gave me an ‘’eye-opener’’. Why can’t life seem that simple for us? Just by looking at something colorful. That person was around my age, things we have done through our lives, basal things for instance running, has been impossible for him. This might sound very funny, but we actually take things for granted and we barely value the small things in our weekday. That person could be as anybody else, not that he is different from us just that the thing that he has a perturbation in his chromosomes, DNA.
To sum up I just wanted to say that we should be careful for what we wish for, because nothing can be more important than our health.
So next time you get on a bus, just wonder...How many people sit around you, how many thoughts, and how many different stories?
Isn’t it funny, what a bus tour can do?
A young woman named Zadie Smith is a well known young author. Her last novel, on beauty is an enjoyable literary novel. In her book she observes humanity and dissects human pretensions. By that, she makes contemporary life seem both peculiar and poetic. The author enters her second ‘’chapter’’ with a quote by Elaine Scarry. It goes somehow like this; ‘’to misstate, or even merely understate, the relation of the universities to beauty is one kind of error that can be made. A university is among the precious things that can be destroyed.’’
Have you ever reevaluated? We humans usually endeavor for something out of the ordinary. We settle down, more often making dreams and wishing that they will someday become reality. We strive to fulfill our goals. Commonly we also make plans for a lifetime and almost always we are being definitely accurate to ‘’the meaning of life’’.
But most importantly we fall in love, we perpetrate mistakes and in the end we usually do not even have the slightest idea of what makes life truly beautiful. And all that because we often take things for granted.
If we look back in time, we will distinguish that each and every one of us has at least once in our lifetime searched for a personal identity, or maybe still do. What makes it so hard to define one person, to define ourselves? Our identity consists roughly of those properties that make us unique as individuals and different from others. It may be the way we see and define ourselves or even the network of values and convictions that structure our lives.
Therefore we will always acquire a new individual identity, or perhaps without even knowing it carry on without one. But the point is that while we continue searching for identities, we just happen to forget something very central, namely that we are all of the same kind. As H.J. Blackman once said ‘’ we refuse to be each other’’. We are humans and most importantly we are those, we were born to be. We cannot change as persons, our heritages and backgrounds; we can just change the circumstances around us and embrace our personal identity.
Throughout our personal experiences, economical diversity, race, class, political views, clashes of culture and religions in the depth we all strive for one purpose, namely to ‘’live happily ever after’’. But there is a variety of persons that frequently take fairytales as exceptions and try to be more realistic, they look at their own factuality. In fact they do not even believe in their dreams, they think that those precisely like the stars, are not predicated anywhere and may whenever just fall. Dreams are just one part of their sleep and liberation for their minds. To be honest persons like that are very pessimistic, they just see life from one angle. Things usually have many frames of references and they may often lose the meaning of life.
On the other hand there are persons who happen to believe in their visions and aims and find them as a decampment that conducts them to their felicity. These persons have the opportunity to find the distinction in their lives and move forward. It is also known that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Another substantial part of our humanity is to ‘’fall in love’’, a locution that often brings both happiness and virulence in one’s heart. Everything starts with empathy, the falling follows and the trust which leads to love. Marriage and family, everything follows the tradition and of course the path of nature. But this path may also lead to betrayals, disappointments and regrets. Mistakes are conducted that may never be forgotten or forgiven. And as we stand there at the boulevard of our broken dreams, we realize that we must take a decision, either to condone a person or to continue on without it. The action that hurts the most is the belief of ‘’knowing’’ a person for that many years, while actually not. Because trying to forget someone you love, is like trying to remember someone you never met. Stories vary, such do love. But we need love to continue, we, humans are created this way.
While the key to the door lock; is that we must face things in life with equanimity and objectivity. We must stand up proudly no matter what happens and continue with our show, because life is full of surprises that may pop up unexpectedly. To sum up the spicy ingredient of life, is love. We cannot buy love; we can only earn it throughout our doings. So before we search for the substantial in our life, we should just reconsider for a minute and then see that nothing else matters other than to be loved and love.
